The Friends of Westonbirt
In Tranquility we have long considered Westonbirt a very special place indeed, not just for its great beauty and because it is an arboretum to challenge any in the world but also because of the amazing tree resource there. The Holfords certainly had vision, the more so as those who planted the young trees would never have seen what they envisioned.
While it is owned and run by the Forestry Commission, it is crucial the delights are brought to as many as possible, and that costs money. They have a new project which requires several buckets of money, so Tranquility has decided to make a donation from every timber product sold to The Friends of Westonbirt charity. We have an agreement now in force and the correct statement for our donation is:
“Tranquility Timber Products Ltd. and Tranquility Timber Home Products Ltd. will donate 5% of the retail price of every timber product made from wood sourced from Westonbirt, the National Arboretum, and 2% of the retail price of every timber product sold made from wood NOT sourced from Westonbirt, the National Arboretum, to the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum, registered charity no. 293190”.
Clearly it is more efficient for us to receive Westonbirt’s logs as they come in without a transport cost and no management time is involved. Buying in from elsewhere, we visit most of the places they are grown to check why they are being felled to make sure we are happy to take them. This is much more time consuming and therefore costly and we have to agree a price for each shipment of logs coming in. In case anybody wonders, we also pay for the logs we receive from Westonbirt, but that payment goes to The Forestry Commission.
Visitors to our market stall or exhibition stands mostly know of Westonbirt which is held national in high regard and love to know many of our products are made from trees that grew there. 5% is a hefty share but what better cause could there be and we are sure customers would also love to know such a donation is being made.
